(JOPLIN, Mo.) – The Truman women's soccer team had two chances in the waning minutes of Thursday night's contest at Missouri Southern, but the Bulldogs left Fred G. Hughes Stadium with just one point after battling the MSSU Lions to a 0-0 draw.
It was a fairly even contest throughout, with MSSU narrowly out-shooting the Bulldogs, 10-8, but Truman put three of its shots on net to just two for the Lions. After entering the day tied for the top at the MIAA standings, the two programs added one point and remained unbeaten in conference play, having now earned seven points through three matches.
The Bulldogs had just one shot on net through the first overtime before freshman
Sally Smith (Ames, Iowa, Ames) put an attempt on goal, leading to a Truman corner kick in the 108
th minute. Sophomore
Heather Niebling (Fenton, Mo., Ursuline Academy) then earned a chance, but MSSU keeper Randi Russell made a second straight stop, leading the teams to the scoreless draw.
Junior
Jayne Grisham (Bridgeton, Mo., Ursuline Academy) posted her second solo shutout in as many contests by making two saves.
Truman, now 3-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the MIAA, wraps up the road trip at noon on Saturday at Southwest Baptist.
