#16 Volleyball Sweeps Fort Hays, Moves to 9-2

(KIRKSVILLE, Mo.) – The 16th-ranked Truman volleyball squad wrapped up a 2-0 weekend with a sweep of Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs took sets of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21 to move to 9-2 overall on the season and 2-1 in the MIAA.
 
Sophomore middle Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) led the Bulldogs with ten kills and hit .364 to wrap up a three-match week that included 44 kills (4.00 per set), .520 hitting and 18 blocks (1.64 per set). She did most of her damage in the first two sets against FHSU (3-8, 0-3 MIAA), putting away nine kills and tallying six blocks to help the Bulldogs get out to a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
 
“It was a great weekend for us,” head coach Ben Briney said. “Now we just have to focus on three more important conference matches this coming week leading up to the regional crossover the following weekend.”
 
The Bulldogs were able to hit better than .230 in all three sets en route to a .252 finish, while holding the Tigers to just .101 and forcing 21 attack errors. Truman also won the war at the net, totaling ten blocks and hitting into just four for Fort Hays.
 
Junior outside Molly Sinclair (St. Louis, Mo., Ursuline Academy) added nine kills and a team-high 14 digs, with a pair of sophomore right-sides – Lauren Radix (Black Earth, Wis., Wisconsin Heights) and Allyson Stellmach (Huntley, Ill., Huntley) – chipping in six kills apiece.
 
Senior Ashley Petak (Omaha, Neb., Bellevue West)'s 19 assists were a team-high, while junior Kylie Easlon (Edmond, Okla., Edmond Santa Fe) came in right behind her with 17 of her own.
 
Madison Schwartz led the Tigers with 12 kills and 11 digs.
 
Truman will wrap up a three-match homestand on Wednesday (Sept. 22) night when it hosts Southwest Baptist to Kirksville for a 7 pm start.
 
Additional Notes:
·         Truman improved to 5-1 this season in 3-set matches and are now 6-1 overall against teams not ranked in the top-25 at match-time.
·         The Bulldogs closed out its fifth straight match this season when leading, 2-0.
·         Senior Allison Barker finished the week of matches averaging 5.00 digs per set, with senior libero Casey Bruno averaging 4.73.
·         Truman hit .251 for the week against two ranked opponents (ESU, WU) and Fort Hays.
