RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - - The Truman volleyball team had 26 total blocks on the day, including one of the program's highest marks of 21 in the opener, en route to wins against Lindenwood (Mo.) and Sioux Falls (S.D.) on day one at the Arkansas Tech Invitational.
In the first match of the event, Truman forced 42 Lindenwood hitting errors, 21 coming of the block variety, as Truman racked up the second-most blocks in school history in a five-set (-13, 24-26, -16, 23-25, 15-8) victory. Megan Sharpe led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and 12 blocks for her second kill/block double-double of the season, while Molly Sinclair added a kill/dig double-double of her own with 10 & 10. Setter Meghan Zimmerman finished the match with 18 assists and ten digs, while libero Abby Moser posted 20 digs, her 13th match this season with 20 or more.
Both teams totaled 47 kills in the match and Truman was out-dug by nine, but the team's solid advantage at the net (21-9) sealed the difference in the match. Sharpe's 12 blocks set a career-high and marked the 5th-highest single-match total in program history. Both Sinclair and Allie Brak also set new career-highs at the net, as Brak totaled six block assists and Sinclair turned away five Lion attacks.
Then, in the nightcap, the Bulldogs picked up their second 3-0 sweep of the season, handling the USF Cougars (-17, -22, 29-27). Sharpe once again took home top kill honors with ten in just two sets, while Brak (9), Emily Briseno (8) and Heather Hargadine (7) added the majority of the rest of Truman's attack. The 'Dogs hit .252 for the match, guided by Kylie Easlon's 25 assist/12 dig double-double at the setter position.
Truman (12-8) closes the ATU Invite on Saturday afternoon with matches against Henderson (Ark.) State and host ATU.
