RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - - The Truman volleyball team closed out the Arkansas Tech Invitational with a 3-1 record after carding a day two split on Saturday. The Bulldogs swept Henderson (Ark.) State in the opener before being swept by the host Golden Suns in the finale.
Truman (13-9) started the day by hitting .254 in a quick sweep of HSU (-20, -14, -17). Megan Sharpe had 11 kills and four blocks, while Emily Briseno added six kills and four additional blocks. Lauren Radix and Molly Sinclair combined for 15 more kills in a match that saw the Bulldogs add six aces and nine team blocks to shut down the Reddie attack.
Then, in the nightcap, the Bulldogs couldn't get any consistent offense going against host ATU (25-3), as the Golden Suns picked up a 3-0 (-20, -18, -19) victory. Allie Brak led the 'Dogs with eight kills and added eight digs, while both Sinclair and Radix chipped in seven kills apiece. Abby Moser dug 20 ATU attacks to lead all players, but Truman was out-dug, 63-44, and was out-blocked, 6-4. For the match, Tech hit .276 to just .121 for the 'Dogs, as Truman fell to 0-5 on the season in true road matches.
The Bulldogs have 12 MIAA regular season matches remaining in the 2011 season and will knock one off on Tuesday (Oct. 18) night by traveling to Bolivar, Mo., for a 7:00 pm showdown with Southwest Baptist.
