Volleyball Blasts Way to Four-Set Victory

KIRKSVILLE - - The Truman volleyball team hit .348 against visiting Missouri Southern on Friday night, picking up a 3-1 (-10, -17, 19-25, -18) victory to improve to 15-9 and notch its sixth win in the last seven matches.

 

The Bulldogs, who evened their MIAA record to 4-4, hit better than .400 in each of the three winning sets, including a 20-kill performance in the second set. Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) and Allie Brak (The Colony, Texas, The Colony) tied for the team-high with 13 kills and two blocks apiece, while Emily Briseno (Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit West) and Heather Hargadine (Wildwood, Mo., St. Francis Borgia) added nine kills each.

 

Outside of a third-set hiccup, the 'Dogs were in control throughout the match, posting 78 digs behind a match-high 26 by Abby Moser (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette). Brak notched a double-double with ten digs with her 13 kills, while setter Meghan Zimmerman (Papillion, Neb., Gross Catholic) also posted a double-double with 18 assists and 15 digs. Kylie Easlon (Edmond, Okla., Edmond Santa Fe) led all players with 29 assists, adding an ace and eight digs.

 

Seven Bulldogs hit better than .350 on the night, while MSSU (4-17, 2-7 MIAA) hit just .100 behind nine kills from Katie Politte.

 

Truman returns to action on Saturday evening at 5:00 pm to face Pittsburg State in Pershing Arena.
