Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 10 UCM

KIRKSVILLE - - The Truman women's soccer team gave 10th-ranked Central Missouri all it could handle on Saturday afternoon, but the Jennies sat on an early goal and added an insurance tally late to down Truman 2-0 on Senior Day.

UCM (17-1, 8-0 MIAA) got on the board in the 8th minute when Alyssa Rhodes was left alone on the near post off a Kayla Shain free kick. Then, in the 72nd minute, Kristin Bright found space in the Bulldog box off a Becky Lackey feed and put a shot past Truman keeper Jayne Grisham for the 2-0 edge.

The two teams were practically identical in all other stat categories, with the Jennies edging the Bulldogs in shots 12-11 and both teams earning seven corner kicks. Suzanne Pelley and Trisha Shoemaker took three shots apiece for the 'Dogs, with both putting one on target.

Grisham made four saves in net, including a critical stop on a UCM breakaway in the 29th minute to preserve what was then a 1-0 score.

The Bulldogs (11-5-2, 7-1 MIAA) will be the No. 2 seed in next weekend's MIAA tournament, held at UMKC. Truman will face the winner of Missouri Southern/Southwest Baptist on Friday (Nov. 4) at 1:00 pm with the potential championship match set for Sunday (Nov. 6) at 1:00 pm.
