KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - In a match dominated from the opening whistle to the final horn by the Truman women's soccer team, it was a second-half goal by senior Jaclyn Schumann that sent the Bulldogs home with a 1-0 victory against Missouri Western on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-4-2, 3-0 MIAA) outshot the Griffons (3-5, 0-2 MIAA), 34-1, on the afternoon, including a 13-0 advantage on goal, but it wasn't until the 62nd minute before Truman could break through and grab the lead. Schumann corralled the final leg of passes from Kelsey Twellman and Olivia Hayes and found the lower corner of the net for her second goal of the year.
Western's only shot came early in the second half, but Truman keeper Jayne Grisham wasn't forced to make a true save in her 90 minutes of work, earning her second straight shutout.
Truman, the MIAA points leader with nine through Tuesday's action, will travel to another of the league's undefeated squads – Northwest Missouri – for a conference match on Thursday (Oct. 6) at 4:00 pm. The Bearcats are 5-2-2 overall (2-0 MIAA) on the year and tied Truman, 0-0, in a nonconference contest in Kirksville on Sept. 15.
