Women's Soccer Remains Perfect in MIAA

Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo. - - A third straight shutout and a pair of bookend goals helped propel the Truman women's soccer team to a 2-0 MIAA road win at Northwest Missouri State on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (6-4-2, 4-0 MIAA) carried over their all-out offensive attack from Tuesday's win against Missouri Western with a dominant first half on Thursday, out-shooting the Bearcats (5-3-2, 2-1 MIAA), 13-0, and using a goal in the 7th minute by Trisha Shoemaker to take a 1-0 halftime lead. For Shoemaker, it was her team-leading 5th goal of the season, having been set up by Olivia Hayes' third assist of 2011.

The second half played more evenly, with the shot total favoring Northwest, 5-3, but Kelsey Twellman gave the Bulldogs an extra bit of insurance by finding pay-dirt with three minutes to play for a 2-0 Bulldog advantage. It was Twellman's fourth goal of the year, while Megan Buri notched her team-leading fifth assist.

Keeper Jayne Grisham logged her third straight shutout, making one save in 90 minutes of work. The Bulldog defense as a whole, for the second time this season, clamped down on the MIAA's top two scorers, holding the Bearcats' Tammie Eiberger and Victoria VonMende to just one combined shot.

The Bulldogs have won three straight for the first time all season, out-shooting opponents 62-7 during the stretch.

Truman takes the next week off before returning to action next Thursday (Oct. 13) at home in an MIAA match against Washburn (Kan.) University at 3:00 pm.
