Bulldogs Take Down Hannibal-LaGrange In Home Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog wrestling team took advantage of a shorthanded Hannibal-LaGrange squad on Thursday night and handed the Trojans a 45-12 loss in the home opener for the Bulldogs.  Truman will compete at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday in St. Charles.

Josh Wells held off a furious comeback attempt by Bryce Alexander in the 165-pound match. Wells led 4-1 after the first period but needed a late escape with five seconds remaining plus the riding time advantage to win 10-8.

Nathan Downs of the Trojans picked up a fall win at 174 after pinning Truman's Sean Brown with 24 seconds remaining in the first period.

In the heavyweight match, the Bulldogs Thomas Redmon put Jake Hare on his back and recorded the fall victory just 26 seconds into the opening period.

Seven of the 10 bouts were uncontested.

Truman improves to 2-0 on the season in dual matches and it was the 92nd dual victory for Coach David Schutter.
