SIUE Results | Purdue Results

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Truman wrestling team capped off finals week with a pair of major tests against Division I opponents. The Bulldogs fell 47-3 to Purdue University (Ind.) while coming up short against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 27-18 on Sunday.

Truman led 18-3 against the Cougars with forfeit wins by Daniel Karlskin (South Boardman, Mich.) and Will Evans (Columbia, Mo., Rock Bridge) followed by a 7-4 win by Alex Maus (Kennesaw, Ga., Kennesaw Mt.) over Logan Taylor and a 4-3 victory scored by Devon Fenstermaker at 157.

The Cougars rallied with wins in the final five matches, three coming via pinfall. Zach Hayes (Maryland Heights, Mo., Parkway North) lost a narrow 9-6 decision at 174 and Max Muench (St. Louis, Mo., Mehlville) was victim to a 3-1 loss in the next match to keep Truman up by three points.

Josh Wood and Cole Rogers each scored first period pin falls to push Southern Illinois over the top in the dual.

The Big 10 opponents were too much for the Bulldogs as they won nine of the ten bouts, five by fall. The lone highlight for Truman was their nationally ranked competitor, Ryan Maus (Kennesaw, Ga., Kennesaw Mt.), at 149 downing Frankie Porras of the Boilermakers 6-2.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Springfield, Ill. on Jan. 7-8. The prestigious event brings together a select number of schools from around the country to one location each year. Truman was selected to participate this season.
