OMAHA, Neb.Ryan Maus was named the MIAA Duals Freshman of the Year as he picked up two victories out of three opportunities as the Bulldog wrestling team lost all their three matches in the third annual event.

Truman opened up the duals by facing off with the top ranked and host school Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in the four-team format. The Bulldogs actually had a 9-3 lead in the dual following a forfeit win by Ryan Banning at 125 and a strong 14-11 win by Maus at 141 over Tim Chavez. However, top ranked Esai Dominguez battled out a 15-8 decision over Colton Schmitz at 149 and three falls later, the Mavericks took the dual 33-9.

The Bulldogs then moved to face #19 ranked Fort Hays State and got off to a strong start again when Banning won by tech fall over the Tigers' Rory Wilkinson. FHSU then countered with three straight wins by their ranked wrestlers with a fall by Aldon Isenberg over Nick Shea, a hard fought 4-2 decision by #5 Andre Harrison over Maus and an 8-1 decision by #8 Michell Means over Schmitz.

Devon Fenstermaker pulled the Bulldogs to within three with a major decision over Mark Roundtree. However a quick pin of Andy Bader by #7 Travis Budke and falls at 197 and 285 gave Fort Hays the victory in round two of the duals.

Rival Central Missouri took to the mats in the final confrontation of the day and it was a back-and-forth affair. The Bulldogs raced out to a 12-4 lead with wins by Banning (forfeit), Maus, (2-1 in overtime), Schmitz (8-1). The Mules then picked up wins at 157, 165 and 174 before Nate Seiler won by fall at the 1:30 mark to put the Bulldogs up by just two points with two matches left. Central would take the final two bouts for the 24-18 victory.
