EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Bulldog wrestling team picked up a 27-15 victory against Division I, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Thursday night.
Ryan Banning rallied from two points down to win the opening bout 4-2. Banning did all his scoring in the final period as he picked up an escape and a take down and got the bonus riding time point for the decision.
Nick Shea won the next match by fall just 23 seconds into the second period following by a first period fall from Ryan Maus at 141.
Colton Schmitz made it four straight for the Bulldogs with a 4-0 victory at 149 before the Cougars received their first team points via a forfeit at 157.
Senior Andy Bader got a third period escape and added a riding time point for a 9-7 decision at 165.
The 174 match saw three reversals in the final period before Steven Ross ended up with a 6-5 decision over Truman's Chad Kurovski. Zach Hayes followed with a 4-2 overtime victory with an escape and a take down in the second extra period at 184. Nate Seiler also won in overtime by a 9-7 decision to secure the fourth dual win for the Bulldogs this season.
Truman will next compete at the NCAA Super Regional next weekend in Findlay, Ohio. It is the first step toward the Division II championship meet were four wrestlers from each weight class will advance from the regional to nationals.
