SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Truman softball team stepped out of conference play for a road doubleheader at the University of Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday afternoon, and the Bulldogs picked up a sweep of the Prairie Stars by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

Truman (20-16) pounded out 24 hits between the two games, including homeruns by both Kelsey Bollman and Bridget Schade. Bollman led off the top of the third inning of game one with her eighth shot of the season, before the 'Dogs took advantage of a pair of UIS errors in the sixth to plate two more runs. After UIS cut the Truman lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Schade came through with an RBI single before Christine Ulses generated a run via a sacrifice fly to push the lead back to three runs.

Meredith Kusky followed with another RBI single for another insurance tally in defense of Beth Schnurbusch, who picked up her eighth win of the season, and Ashley Rotkvich, who pitched the final two innings for the save.

Then, in game two, Truman got out to a 4-1 lead behind a pair of Alex Weber RBIs before UIS bounced back with three in their half of the fifth to knot the score at 4-4. However, Truman came right back in the top of the sixth, as Alyssa Perry delivered an RBI single before Schade added her fourth homerun of the season in the seventh. Elizabeth Grover earned her third win of the season in the circle, entering in relief.

Schade had five total hits on the day, while both Weber and Mary Manley totaled four hits apiece.

Truman returns to Kirksville this weekend for the MIAA North Crossover, held at North Park. The full tournament website will be released on Thursday at TrumanBulldogs.com.
