MARYVILLE, Mo. - - Sophomore Laura Miller had four hits, including a homerun, in two games, and junior Bridget Schade added her sixth homerun of the season, but the Truman softball team dropped a pair of re-scheduled games at Northwest Missouri on Saturday, 5-2 and 9-3.
The Bulldogs (20-20, 4-10 MIAA) fell behind 5-0 in game one before Schade (Herculaneum, Mo., Herculaneum), the reigning MIAA hitter of the week, got Truman on the board with a solo shot in the fifth. Miller (Columbia, Mo., Hickman) followed in the seventh with her third blast of the year, but Truman mustered just three hits off NWMSU starter Jenna Creger in the 5-2 defeat. Ashley Rotkvich (Crestwood, Ill., Shepard) started and took the loss despite three of her five runs allowed being unearned.
In game two, the two squads played back and forth to a 3-3 tie through six innings. A Schade sacrifice fly in the first scored freshman Kelsey Bollman (Maquoketa, Iowa, Maquoketa) before Miller plated Bollman again in the third with an RBI double down the left field line. Then, after trailing 3-2 through the top of the sixth, pinch-runner Lexi Rollet (Perryville, Mo., Perryville) came across to tie the game on a Bollman RBI fielder's choice.
With the Bulldogs acting as the home team despite the change of locations, Northwest (23-13, 12-4 MIAA) scored six in the top of the seventh to break the game open behind four hits and a Truman error. Elizabeth Grover (Troy, Mo., Troy Buchanan) started and threw 6.1 innings before being relieved by Kirsten Krause (St. Louis, Mo., Parkway North) in the seventh.
Miller posted three of her four hits on the day in game two, while Meredith Kusky (Ballwin, Mo., Nerinx Hall) added a pair of base hits as well.
The Bulldogs return to Kirksville for a Tuesday doubleheader against Missouri Southern at 2 pm. The previously-scheduled doubleheader with Nebraska-Omaha this weekend has not yet been re-scheduled.
