Truman State University (Mo.) 20-28; 4-18 MIAA

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Nebraska Omaha Mavericks earned a share of the MIAA Softball title with a doubleheader sweep over the Truman Bulldogs on Monday in a make-up game. The Mavericks took the opener 7-0 before completing the sweep with a 4-0 victory. The Bulldogs season comes to an end with a 20-28 overall record and 4-18 conference mark.

Maverick pitcher Beth Haley was dominate in the opener as she struck out eight and allowed just one hit, a liner in the seventh inning, in the complete game shutout over the Bulldogs.  The Mavericks scored runs in the first four innings and stranded 14 runners for the game.

Game two featured another strong pitching performance by UNO as Lindsey Slocum faced the minimum through four innings before Bridget Schade led off the fifth with a walk.

The Mavericks led just 2-0 at that time as Truman pitcher Ashley Rotkvich manage to escape trouble in the early going by getting some strong defensive plays and inducing key pop outs.

After UNO pushed across a third run in the sixth, the Bulldogs got their first hit of the game when Emily Huntze beat out an infield single and Alex Weber followed with another infield base knock. However, Slocum struck out Truman's top hitter Kelsey Bollman then got Laura Miller to ground out to end the threat.

The Bulldogs added two more hits in the seventh but a pair of strikeouts by Slocum ended the game. The Mavericks stranded 15 runners in the night cap.

UNO claims a share of the MIAA Championship with Emporia State and Missouri Western but will be seeded third in the upcoming tournament as they lose the tiebreakers to the Griffons (top seed) and the Lady Hornets (second seed).

The Bulldogs see their season come to an end as they did not qualify for the league's tournament that starts on Thursday.
