OMAHA, Neb. - - The Truman women's soccer team opened up its 2011 season at the Nebraska-Omaha Classic on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Midwestern (Texas) State. The Bulldogs got a penalty kick goal from Jaclyn Schumann but ended up on the wrong side of an evenly-played contest.

MSU (1-0) got on the board early, taking the lead in the fifth minute behind a goal from Emily Saville. However, it took Truman (0-1) less than ten minutes to respond when, following a Mustang foul in the box, Schumann converted a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1.

Midwestern responded in the 32nd minute, getting a goal by Kelsey Hill on a ball played over the top by Lindsay Pritchard to put MSU ahead again, 2-1.

Truman had its chances the rest of the way, including a pair of attempts in the waning minutes by junior F Olivia Hayes, but the 'Dogs couldn't find the equalizer despite winning the shot count, 15-12.

Hayes led all 'Dogs with four shots, while a quartet of Truman players added two shots each. Senior GK Jayne Grisham made two stops in net.

The Bulldogs play on Sunday morning against Central Oklahoma at 11:00 am to wrap up the UNO Classic.
