HAYS, Kan. - - Megan Sharpe led four Bulldogs in double-figures offensively, but the No. 24 Truman volleyball team was stunned on the road by Fort Hays (Kan.) State, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Sharpe posted a team-high 16 kills and seven blocks to lead the Bulldogs, but in a match that featured 52 tie scores and 26 lead changes throughout, it was Fort Hays that prevailed after Truman (6-5, 1-2 MIAA) held a 2-1 lead in the match through three sets. The first two sets went to extra points, with FHSU winning the first and Truman picking up the second, before the 'Dogs nabbed a 25-22 win in the third.
However, Hays (9-6, 1-4 MIAA) rallied with a 25-23 fourth set win before using both a 4-0 and 3-0 runs in the final frame to pick up the 15-11 win and keep Truman winless on the two-match road weekend.
Joining Sharpe in double-figures were Molly Sinclair (12 kills, 19 digs), Emily Briseno (11 kills, five blocks) and Allie Brak (ten kills, 19 digs), while Meghan Zimmerman took home top setting honors with 26 assists and 14 digs. The Bulldogs hit .178 for the match to an even .178 for FHSU, but the Tigers took advantage of nine service aces to just four for Truman. The 'Dogs did out-block FHSU, 13-11, for the match.
Truman returns to action at the Washburn Regional Crossover next weekend with four matches against regional foes, starting with nationally-ranked Angelo (Texas) State at 11:30 am on Friday, Sept. 30.
