FULTON, Mo. – The Truman Tennis teams handed Westminster College (Mo.) a pair of dual match losses on Monday afternoon in a make-up from an earlier season postponement. The men won 8-1 while the women posted a 9-0 shutout. Both teams will be back in action in Kirksville on Wednesday against William Jewell (Mo.).
In women's doubles action, Ellen Russell and Dagmar Velez were 8-4 winners at number one, Kim Birenbaum and Kelsey Porter were 8-2 winners at number two and Katie Austin and Jessica Gennuso were 8-1 victors at number three to stake the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead.
In singles play, all six matches were decided in straight sets in favor of the 1-0 Bulldogs.
Westminster took the number one doubles match by an 8-3 score over Truman's Eric McCollough and Mark Sturley but Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith edged out a tough 9-8 (7-3) win at number two and Adam King and Joe Murphy-Baum picked up an 8-2 decision at number three to give Truman a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Again, all six singles matches were straight set winners for the Bulldogs, who also improve to 1-0 on the young season.
