Quick Strikes Propel Women's Soccer Past UCO

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. - - Truman's top two scorers from a year ago linked up for a pair of goals in just a two and a half minute span during Sunday's first half, as the Bulldog women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory against Central Oklahoma in the final game of the Nebraska-Omaha Classic.

Junior forward Olivia Hayes (24') and senior midfielder Megan Buri (27') provided all the offense Truman would need in a second critical regional matchup for the weekend. Hayes tapped in a pass from senior forward Alison Taylor from five yards out to get the Bulldogs (1-1) on the board before Buri handled matters on her own just moments later to give Truman a 2-0 advantage.

UCO (0-2) would get on the board with just less than 13 minutes to play, but the Bulldog defense held strong to deny any additional scores for the Bronchos.

Senior keeper Jayne Grisham and sophomore keeper Emily Bozdeck split time in net, with Grisham posting six first-half saves before Bozdeck added three more in the final 45 minutes. The two teams were nearly even on total shots, with the Bulldogs garnering an 18-17 advantage behind five from Hayes and four from junior midfielder Kelsey Twellman.

The Bulldogs head to San Antonio next weekend for two more regional battles, starting by facing the host Incarnate Word Cardinals on Friday (Sept. 9) night before taking on No. 22 Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon.
