EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Truman wrestling team once again stepped up their level of competition as they battled three Division I schools on Sunday. Truman lost to host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 32-12, they fell to Eastern Michigan University 47-0 before being defeated by 15th ranked University of Missouri 52-0.
The dual with the Cougars was a back-and-forth affair early going with Truman and SIUE exchanging six point matches in the first two bouts. At 141 and 149, Truman's Maus brothers faced off against the Pousson brothers.
Dillon Pousson defeated
Alex Maus 6-2 but
Ryan Maus shutout Derrick Pousson 6-0 to even the score at nine apiece.
Devon Fenstermaker gave Truman an 12-9 lead with a 7-2 victory over Kyle Lowman in overtime.
However, that would be the last match won by the Bulldogs on the afternoon. The Cougars' Steven Ross edged out a 2-1 victory over
Jordan Powell and Gabe Hocum pinned Josh Wells in the 174 match.
Truman was open at 184 and
Zach Hayes was defeated 7-0 at 197.
Joel Geders fell by tech fall to end the dual.
The Bulldogs couldn't get much going against Eastern Michigan but had three close bouts.
Alex Maus lost a 3-2 decision to Seth Schaner at 141,
Ryan Maus lost 2-0 to Jaylyn Bohl and Fenstermaker fell 2-0 to Aaron Rish at 157.
Against the Tigers, Truman had two pins against, four tech falls, two major decisions, an open and an injury default.
The Bulldogs will be at the Missouri Valley College Open next Sunday in Marshall.
