Volleyball Picks Up Five-Set Win at S&T

Box Score || Season Stats
ROLLA, Mo. - - A third road match in five days provided a weary Truman volleyball team with a stiff test on Tuesday night, but the 20th-ranked Bulldogs prevailed in a five-set thriller against in-state rival Missouri S&T to earn their 10th straight victory.

The Bulldogs (19-4) stumbled out of the gate, allowing Missouri S&T (13-9) to pick up a 25-19 first-set win in which Truman never led. However, the purple and white recovered in the second, blasting a .414 attack percentage with 16 kills to even the match with a 25-13 win.

The Miners appeared to have the third set in hand, leading Truman 18-12, but the Bulldogs rattled off six in a row and 11 of 12 to take a 23-19 lead. Although S&T would pull to within one at 23-22, back-to-back kills by Briseno (Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit West) and Patterson (Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit) put the 'Dogs on top 2-1 in the match.

After S&T took the fourth set 25-16 to force a decisive fifth frame, it was all Truman down the stretch – hitting .500 behind eight kills – to win the fifth, 15-6. Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) totaled five of her 15 kills in the final set, as she was one of four Bulldogs in double-figures on the night.

Patterson led all players with a career-high 16 kills, hitting .289, with Sharpe (15), Allie Brak (The Colony, Texas, The Colony) (12) and Briseno (11) rounding out the top offensive numbers for the Bulldogs. Meghan Zimmerman (Papillion, Neb., Gross Catholic) finished the night with 49 assists and 11 digs for a double-double, with Brak also pairing her 12 kills with a double-double inducing 13 digs. Abby Moser (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette) led all Bulldogs with 26 digs, and Allyson Stellmach (Huntley, Ill., Huntley) chipped in 11 digs of her own as Truman out-hit S&T .240 to .171.

Alison Mueller led S&T with 14 kills, while Jocelyn DeMotte led all players with 27 digs.

Truman won its 10th-straight match, marking the largest win streak for the program since a 12-match winning streak from Oct. 25 – Dec. 4, 2008.

The Bulldogs return to Kirksville this Friday to kick off a four-match home-stand with a 7pm match against Pittsburg State.
