Tigers Stop Truman's Unbeaten Streak

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Jordan Hester's seventh goal of the season just 19 seconds into the second half halted the Truman women's soccer team's seven-game unbeaten streak as the Fort Hays (Kan.) State University Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 2-1 on Friday afternoon.

Cindy Benitez drilled a shot outside the 18-yard box at the start of the half that Truman keeper Emily Bozdeck blocked but the rebound caromed to Hester who buried it in the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Fort Hays struck first in the 15th minute as Benitez set up Alexis Aiman at the top of the 18-yard box and with her right foot lifted the ball to the top left corner for an early 1-0 lead. It was Aiman's fourth tally of the season.

Truman got the equalizer a minute later as Emily McMeekin scored her first goal of the season after taking a pass from Melanie Hunt and burying the ball past Rachael Schaad.

The Bulldog outshot the Tigers 22-13 and had a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks but could not come up with the tying goal.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 11-3-1 overall and 7-2 in the MIAA with three regular season games left. Truman will host the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday afternoon at noon. Fort Hays moves to 9-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference.
