KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The No. 18 Truman women's soccer team wraps up a four-match homestand this Wednesday and Sunday, as the Bulldogs prepare to host Quincy (Ill.) and Lindenwood in week six of the 2012 season.

The Bulldogs (8-2, 4-1 MIAA) are coming off a 2-0 weekend of play, beginning with a 2-0 win against Missouri Southern on Friday before handing Central Missouri its first loss of the season with a 1-0 win on Sunday. Truman picked up its fourth league win in five matches after Friday's game, with Sunday's contest only counting towards regional selection consideration – not the MIAA standings. The Bulldogs' return trip to Warrensburg in late October will serve as the league match between Truman and UCM.

On Friday, the Bulldogs got out in front behind a Trisha Shoemaker goal in the eighth minute before Alexis Heffernan tallied her first collegiate goal in the 68th for the insurance marker. Emily Bozdeck made a pair of saves in net, as Truman out-shot MSSU 19-10 on the day.

Then, on Sunday, Truman used another early goal – this time off a 55-yard run by Kelsey Twellman through the heart of the UCM defense in the seventh minute for a quick 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would make that margin hold up, out-shooting the Jennies 12-11 in the match, with Bozdeck picking up her seventh shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs have scored 20 goals with 20 assists through the first 10 matches of the season, out-scoring their opponents by a +14 margin. Shoemaker's nine goals and 21 points lead not only the purple and white, but also the MIAA as a whole,, while Olivia Hayes' four assists lead the Bulldogs and rank second in the MIAA.

Truman's back line has been stellar all season long, as keeper Emily Bozdeck has recorded a 0.60 goals-against average in more than 900 minutes of work.  She has been forced to make just 36 saves with her seven shutouts topping the list amongst MIAA keepers.

Tuesday morning, Truman was rewarded for its recent play by jumping into the NSCAA top-25 coaches' poll at No. 18 – the highest ranking of the season after debuting at No. 23 two weeks ago. The Bulldogs fell out of the top-25 briefly, but have returned as the highest-ranked MIAA program, followed only by Central Oklahoma at No. 24.

Mike Cannon is in his 20th season at the controls of the women's soccer program at Truman and has a career record of 261-92-37. He ranks seventh all-time in NCAA Div. II history in wins, and his teams have won 10 or more matches in 17 straight seasons.

Looking at the MIAA:
Teams will hit the halfway point of the MIAA regular season this week, as the league has begun to shake itself out into different levels. Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri both lead the league with 13 points through five contests, with Truman just one point back with 12.

The league's two Bearcats – Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist – both have 10 points, while three other programs – Fort Hays, Northeastern State, and Missouri Southern – each have tallied nine. Washburn sits in ninth-place with six points, followed by Nebraska-Kearney's four, Missouri Western's three and Emporia State's one point. Lindenwood has yet to win a league match, going 0-5 at the outset.

The top eight teams qualify for the MIAA tournament at the end of the season, with the quarterfinal round taking place on campus sites on Tuesday, Oct. 30, before shifting to the site of the highest-remaining seed for the semifinals and championship on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.

Pressure Cookers:
The Bulldogs have taken the initiative all season long, scoring the first goal of the match all 10 times. In addition, Truman has scored within the game's first 20 minutes on seven occasions, including five goals in the first 10 minutes of a match.

As a result, the Bulldogs haven't trailed much in 2012, finding themselves behind on the scoreboard for just 28 minutes and 23 seconds of the season's 902:41 of total action.

Career Chart Check:
Three Bulldogs continue to make noise on the Truman all-time charts, as seniors Olivia Hayes and Kelsey Twellman, along with junior Emily Bozdeck, inch their ways up a variety of different lists.

Hayes sits third all-time in career shots with 213, 55 back of Shauna Putnam (1987-90) for second. In addition, her 24 career goals are just three back of Jessica Wiegert (2006-09) for seventh, and her 63 points sit just two behind Jill Benson (1994-97) for ninth.

With her two-assist match against NSU last week, Twellman moved past recent graduate Megan Buri (2008-11) into a four-way tie for seventh all-time with 19 assists. She will move into a tie for sixth with just one more and into a tie for fourth with two more assists. Kelsey also sits fifth all-time in career shots, now with 164. She is 18 behind Carie Toczylowski (1994-97) for fifth.

Bozdeck, meanwhile, in her first full season as a starter, passed Leah Hollcroft and Lisa Schmalz with her 11th and 12th career shutouts last week, landing her seventh all time. She needs just one to tie Emily Roark (2005-07) for 6th and three to tie Janet Larson (1989-92) for 5th.

While she hasn't cracked a top-ten chart yet, Trisha Shoemaker (17) is just four goals away from reaching Truman's all-time top-10. The No. 10 spot is currently held by Riley Mahn, who scored 21 goals between 2006-2009.

Checking Out the Competition:
Quincy “Lady Hawks” (8-2)
After reaching as high as No. 7 in the NSCAA top-25 coaches' poll following an 8-0 start, the Hawks were grounded last weekend in a two-match losing trip at Rockhurst and Wiliam Jewell. Quincy is just 2-2 away in true road matches this season, with the teams only sharing Missouri Southern (QU won 4-1 at home) as a common opponent so far in 2012.

The Lady Hawks have a +12 goal differential, averaging 2.10 goals per game behind eight from team-leader Brittany Casey and five goals and six assists by Jaclyn Mastroianni. Jodi Chapie has seen the majority of time in net, allowing seven goals and posting a 1.00 GAA with 21 saves.

Truman and Quincy will be meeting for the 21st time on Wednesday afternoon, with QU holding a 10-9-1 all-time lead. Wednesday will mark Quincy's first trip to Kirksville since 2000, with the Lady Hawks having won the last two meetings (2009, 2011).

Dave Musso is in his seventh season as the head coach of the QU program and has a record of 94-36-9 at the school.

Lindenwood “Lions” (3-5-1, 0-5 MIAA)
The Lions opened the season with a three-match unbeaten streak, but have since gone just 1-5 (0-5 against Div. II schools) in their last six contests. Lindenwood will play host to Missouri Valley on Thursday before visiting Kirksville on Sunday.

Lindenwood has just a -1 goal differential and is averaging 1.78 goals per contest but have been on the wrong side of four one-goal decisions this season. Courtney Bresnahan is the team-leader in goals (5) and points (11), while Bailey Cody has taken a team-high 25 shots. A trio of keepers have spent time in net, combining for a 1.80 GAA and 67 saves (79.8%) with three shutouts.

The Bulldogs are trailing in the all-time series with LWU 5-2-1, but the programs haven't played since the 1997 season. Cannon's teams are 2-1-1 all-time against the recently-turned Div. II Lions.

Laurie Kaminski is in her eighth season as the program's head coach, and she has compiled a career record of 75-51-14.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will travel across the state line for the final time in the 2012 regular season, visiting Washburn and Emporia State on Oct. 12 and 14.
