Bulldogs Take Down Hawks In Tennis

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Tennis teams downed rival Quincy (Ill.) University  on Tuesday afternoon in Kirksville. The men won 7-2 while the women posted a 6-3 victory. The Bulldogs will be in Quincy this weekend for the QU Invitational.
 
Jessica Gennuso and Kelsey Porter and Kati Austin and Savanah Everett got the women the first two points of the dual with doubles victories. Gennuso and Porter won 8-6 and Austin and Everett went a perfect 8-0 at number three. Maggi Schutte and Kim Birenbaum were defeated at number one 8-5.
 
Schutte was a straight set winner at number one while Austin was victorious 6-4, 6-3 at number two. Lauren Higgins and Hanah Runez also picked up straight set winners.

The men took a similar path to victory with wins at number two and three doubles. Adam King and Patrick Spain were 8-5 winners while Mike Merchant and Kirk Schlueter outlasted Dan Martin and John Moskal 9-8 (2-0). The top doubles match was also a battle with the Hawks prevailing by a 9-8 (10-8) score as Ian Hinkamper and Lane Luhring defeated Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith.
 
Hinkamper picked up the Hawks lone singles point with a win over Ohlhausen at number one but the Bulldogs would rout Quincy from there taking the next five matches, all in straight sets.
 
Both Bulldog teams improve to 2-0 in dual play this fall.
