Softball Sets Cruise Control to Pass Dustdevils

Box Score | Season Stats
DENTON, Texas – The Truman softball team built a 14-0 lead through three innings, benefiting from seven Texas A&M-International miscues while smacking 13 hits of its own, en route to a 14-1 five-inning romp on Saturday afternoon.

Cate Simon hit her second home run of the season, while Meredith Kusky and Kristin Grossman also went yard for a Bulldog offense that raised its season average to .349 and is averaging more than six runs per game so far in 2012.

The game was never in doubt, as Truman's Kelsea Dorsey sat down TAMIU in the top of the first before Truman (4-3) put four up in the bottom half for a quick lead. The Bulldogs added four more in the second before posting a six-spot in the third for a two touchdown lead.

Dorsey, who moved to 3-0 on the season with the five-inning complete game, made just one miscue on a home run ball in the fourth. However, she struck out four and walked just two.

Truman spread out its 13 hits, getting a perfect 3-for-3 day by Kelsey Bollman and a pair of hits from Corey NiblettElizabeth Leath picked up her third double in six games.

The Bulldogs close out the 2012 Best Western Premier Invitational, hosted by Texas Woman's University, with a doubleheader on Sunday. Truman opens with a 9:00 am first-pitch against Quincy (Ill.) before wrapping up the day at 11:15 am against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
