DENTON, Texas - - The Truman softball team closed out the 2012 Best Western Premier Invitational with a Sunday split, dropping a 10-2 decision to Quincy (Ill.) before bouncing back to hammer Texas A&M-Kingsville 9-1 in the finale.

The Bulldogs return to Kirksville with a 5-4 overall record through the first two weekends, having gone 3-2 in five games at this weekend's Texas Woman's tournament. Truman will travel to Missouri Southern next weekend for four games at the Terri Mathis-Zenner Invitational on Friday (March 2) and Saturday (March 3).

Cate Simon recorded the Bulldogs' first triple of the season but Truman mustered just two runs in a 10-2, 6-inning loss to QU in the opener. It was the second time in as many weekends that the Bulldogs lost the Quincy; however, Sunday's showdown was a stark change from last weekend's 2-1 pitching duel, as QU scored one in the 4th, five in the 5th and four in the 6th to close out the game as the home team. Truman's two runs came in the top of the 6th, as Simon's RBI triple plated Bridget Schade, and an RBI-single by Liz Leath allowed Simon to touch home.Kirsten Krause was hit with the loss as the starter, moving to 1-1 on the season after pitching 4.2 innings of three-run ball.

In the finale, the Bulldogs hit the bus for its long trip home on a positive note by routing Texas A&M-Kingsville 9-1 in five innings. Truman wasted no time in the bottom of the first, turning out three runs behind a Kristin Grossman sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double to right by Kelsey Bollman. After TAMK scored one in the 2nd, Truman made it 7-1 in the third with an RBI single off Grossman's bat, an RBI single by Andrea Klipsch and a two-RBI single by Corey Niblett.

The 'Dogs then finished off the Javelinas in the home half of the 5th, as Ally McReynolds delivered the final shot with a two-RBI double, getting Truman the run-rule victory. Kelsea Dorsey moved to 4-0 in the circle for the 'Dogs, twirling a four-hitter and giving up just the one TAMK run.

For the weekend, the Bulldog bats blazed to a .354 batting average with nine players hitting at least .333 or better. Simon and Schade both hit. 545 on the weekend with six hits, while Grossman added a .500 mark and a team-high six RBI.
