ST. LOUIS - - The Truman softball team traveled to St. Louis for a nonconference doubleheader at Maryville (Mo.) University on Tuesday afternoon and returned home with a sweep, earning 8-1 and 4-2 wins against the Saints.

The Bulldogs (12-11) pounded out 21 hits and hit .362 as a team between the two games, led by a 4-for-6 afternoon by Cate Simon (O'Fallon, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South) and a 5-for-8 outing from the reigning MIAA Hitter of the Week, Bridget Schade (Herculaneum, Mo., Herculaneum)Kelsey Bollman (Maquoketa, Iowa, Maquoketa) added three doubles, while Corey Niblett (Troy, Mo., Troy Buchanan) added a .600 clip and stole a pair of bases.

In game one, freshman Kelsea Dorsey (Clarksville, Mo., Clopton) pitched a complete game to earn her eighth win of the season, allowing seven hits and striking out five without handing out a walk. The Bulldogs led 2-1 through the first four innings before back-to-back three run innings put away the Saints. Simon opened the top of the sixth with a homerun, while Bollman delivered a two-RBI single later in the inning. Then, in the seventh, Niblett plated Simon with an RBI single before both Meredith Kusky (Ballwin, Mo., Nerinx Hall) and Laura Miller (Columbia, Mo., Hickman) crossed home on throwing errors later in the inning.

Then in the finale, the Bulldogs again put their opponent in a quick hole, scoring twice in the first off back-to-back RBI singles by Schade and Simon, before adding an additional run in the third when Schade recorded her MIAA-leading seventh homerun of the season down the left field line.

After the Saints pulled to within one in the fourth, the Bulldogs tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on Bollman's third double of the day – scoring Miller.

Starter Kirsten Krause (St. Louis, Mo., Parkway North) (2-4) earned the win after pitching 4.1 innings, with Ashley Rotkvich (Crestwood, Ill., Shepard) earning her first save of the season with 2.1 innings of scoreless and hitless relief.

The Bulldogs will travel to the two MIAA co-leaders this weekend, visiting Emporia State (12-6, 4-0 MIAA) on Friday (March 16) at 1:00 pm before heading north to St. Joseph for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with No. 13 Missouri Western (19-4, 4-0 MIAA).
