Bulldog Tennis Begins Busy Schedule With Loss To Rockhurst

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Rockhurst (Mo.) University Hawks defeated both Truman Bulldog tennis teams on Wednesday afternoon. The men fell 9-0 while the women dropped a 6-3 decision. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday at home against the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 4:00 p.m.
 
In the ladies match, the Hawks took all three doubles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-6 and 8-3.
Dagmar Velez won in three sets at number two singles 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 while Maggi Schutte was a winner at number four (6-4, 6-2) and Kati Austin defeated Christine Schatz 6-3, 6-2.
 
The Rockhurst men came into the match ranked 48th in Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith lost by a break in the number two doubles match 8-6 while the other two matches were decided by an 8-0 score and 8-4 tally.
 
Joe Murphy-Baum extended Rodolfo Gauto-Mariotti to three sets before being defeated. Murphy-Baum lost the first set 7-5 but rallied to win the second 6-2 before dropping the tie-breaker 10-5.
The women are now 3-4 on the season and the men are 3-3.
