WICHITA, Kan. - - The Truman softball team hit .339 as a unit and belted nine extra-base hits in a doubleheader sweep of Newman (Kan.) University on a blustery Tuesday afternoon, picking up 5-1 and 9-7 wins to improve to 9-10 on the season.

The Bulldogs used first inning runs in both games to propel themselves into the lead, highlighted by a two-run blast by Bridget Schade in game one before Schade followed a Kelsey Bollman two-run shot in game two with one of her own. Andrea Klipsch also hit a homerun in the first inning of game two, setting up the purple and white with 2-0 and 5-0 leads following each top of the first.

In game one, the two runs would be all Kelsea Dorsey needed, as the freshman went the distance, striking out 10 and allowing just five base hits. Truman would add two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth for insurance.

Then in game two, the Bulldog bats came to the defense of pitchers Ashley Rotkvich and Kirsten Krause, as Truman built an 8-0 lead through two innings and pounded out 14 hits in the game. Rotkvich went 3.1 innings as the starter before Krause entered to toss the final 3.2 innings. Newman made a run late, closing a 9-4 gap to just 9-7 in the last of the seventh, but Krause induced a pop-up to the tying run for the final out.

Meredith Kusky went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, while Schade (3-for-6; 2 HR), Klipsch (2-for-4; 1 HR) and Cate Simon (1-for-2) all hit .500. Liz Leath added a pair of doubles, while Truman was active on the basepaths by stealing five bags in game one.

The Bulldogs close out their week-long road trip with a stop in Kansas City on Thursday afternoon, battling GLVC-member Rockhurst (Mo.) University in a 3:00 pm doubleheader.
