Bulldogs Comeback In Both To Take Two From Lincoln

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Bulldogs rallied twice to pick up the doubleheader sweep and extend their winning streak to four games on Tuesday against Lincoln. Truman won the opener 4-3 and game two by a 9-3 tally.

The Blue Tigers came out firing on all cylinders as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff strikeout, the next five Blue Tigers reached with Logan Smith delivering a two-run double to left center and Craig Jones following with an RBI single. With two-out in the third, Weston Lewis jumped started the offense with a bunt single, a fielding error followed as the line-up turned over to the top. Steven Rose doubled in Lewis and Larkin to left center and Devon Myers traded places with Rose with a tying double down the left field line. The game remained tied till the bottom of the sixth when Jerod Hahn singled, stole second and game in to score on Paul Trenhaile's two-out hit up the middle. The Blue Tigers nearly tied the game in the seventh as the final two outs came on close plays. With a runner at second on one out, Andrew St. Pierre flared a ball to right as Hahn threw out Colby Shepherd at the plate for the second out. Chris Pfau followed with a single up the middle and St. Pierre raced home beating the throw by Lewis, however an alert Bulldog dugout called for an appeal at third believing St. Pierre missed the bag and the umpires agreed for the final out of the game. Tyler Stefan picked up his second win of the season in relief of Chris Allard while Taylor Klugman was tagged with his sixth loss.

Each team had a hit apiece through five innings before the Blue Tigers broke on top with two runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead. The Bulldogs answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning as Myers singled in Rose and Trenhaile followed with triple to center to score Myers. Daniel Jewett, who started the game on the mound but switched to the DH in the top of the inning, doubled in the go-ahead run as Truman took the lead 3-2. Zak Larkin drove in two more in the seventh and Rose stayed in the pickle long enough after being picked off of first to allow Larkin to cross the plate for the sixth run of the game. Lincoln tallied one back in the eighth but back-to-back jacks to left by Jewett and Hahn followed by an RBI single by Will Nader gave Truman the cushion. Jarrett Eiskina got the win in relief going two and a third and Austin Olendorff tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to close it out.
