Two from Twellman Gives Bulldogs Victory over Griffons

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.Kelsey Twellman started the game with a goal and finished with the insurance as the Bulldog women's soccer team downed Missouri Western State University 2-0 in the MIAA opener for both squads.

Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) took a pass from Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) in the third minute of play and snuck the ball into the top right corner to stake the Bulldogs the early lead.

Truman then dominated play in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Griffons 14-0.

Western had a chance early in the second as play evened up. Katie Kempf tried to slide a feed past Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh), but the junior keeper made the save to extend the Bulldogs shutout streak to four games and nearly 285 minutes of action.

Twellman became the first Bulldog since Megan Buri in 2010 to record a second goal in a game as she drilled a free kick into the back of the net with just over two minutes left in the game. It was Truman's 12th win over Missouri Western in 14 all-time meetings with two draws. The teams will not play again this season unless both are matched up in the MIAA postseason tournament.

Truman will return to the pitch on Sunday when they host Northwest Missouri State University at 1:00 p.m.
