Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman women's soccer team notched a key early-season regional non-conference win on Sunday afternoon by picking up a 2-0 shutout of Winona (Minn.) State at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

After a scoreless first half, Truman (1-1) got on the board in the 61st minute when Annie Skornia (Manchester, Mo., Parkway South) crossed a ball into the center of the WSU (0-2) box. Trisha Shoemaker (Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Pleasant Valley) took the pass and found an open Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) on the far side, who converted to put the 'Dogs ahead 1-0.

Then, in the 78th minute, the Bulldogs got an important insurance tally when Shoemaker took a pass from Kelsey Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) and beat Warrior keeper Alex Vial on the left side for a 2-0 advantage. It was Shoemaker's second goal in as many games to start the 2012 season.

Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh) made one save, as she was rarely tested in the match. Truman outshot WSU 20-7 overall, with 10 shots coming in both the first and second halves.

The Bulldogs return to action next weekend with a trip to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9. Truman faces Augustana (S.D.) at 5:00 pm on Friday before taking on Sioux Falls at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
