Bulldog Soccer Doubles Up Riverhawks

Box Score | Season Stats
TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. - - The No. 23 Truman women's soccer offense was blistering on Sunday afternoon, as the Bulldogs picked up a 4-2 road win at Northeastern (Okla.) State to knock NSU from the unbeaten ranks.

After NSU (6-1, 2-1 MIAA) scored to take an early lead in the eighth minute, Trisha Shoemaker (Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Pleasant Valley) scored back-to-back goals in the 12th and 17th minutes to put the Bulldogs (6-2, 3-1 MIAA) on top. For Shoemaker, her torrid goal-scoring pace continued, as the junior scored her seventh and eighth goals of the 2012 season. The Riverhawks would get the equalizer right before the half, as the two squads played nearly identically in the first 45 minutes with nine shots apiece and a pair of corner kicks.

The second 45 minutes, however, got off to a great start for the purple and white, as less than two minutes in, Lauren Seawright (Chesterton, Ind., Chesterton) scored her first goal of the year by heading in a Kelsey Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) corner kick for a 3-2 Bulldog lead. Hayley Bollwerk (St. Louis, Mo., Ursuline Academy) then notched her first tally of 2012 in the 72nd minute, finishing an Annie Skornia (Manchester, Mo., Parkway South) flick across the box to give the 'Dogs an insurance marker.

Twellman made it a two assist day by helping on Shoemaker's second goal in the first half, while Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) and Suzanne Pelley (Weldon Spring, Mo., Francis Howell) each were credited with an assist on Shoemaker's first goal. Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh) made seven saves in net to pick up the win.

For the match, both teams totaled 17 shots, with Northeastern having the better run on net with a 9-7 edge.

Truman returns to action next weekend when it returns home for a Friday/Sunday slate against Missouri Southern (Fri., 3pm) and Central Missouri (Sun., noon). The match against UCM will not count towards the MIAA standings.
