Box Score | Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Sophomore Allie Brak tied a career-high with 19 kills, and the Bulldogs hit a collective .250 as Truman volleyball defeated Missouri Western 3-1 on Friday night in Pershing Arena.

Brak (The Colony, Texas, The Colony) – who tied her career-high set earlier this season – used a massive fourth set to help the Bulldogs pick up the home victory and move to 11-4 overall (4-2 MIAA) on the season. After recording 11 kills through the first three sets, Brak had eight kills with no errors on 13 swings in the fourth set to finish the night hitting .341. She added 14 digs for her 19th career double-double as well as four block assists.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a fast start, hitting .324 in the opening set to pick up a 25-14 decision. However, each of the final three sets were tightly contested, as Truman grabbed a 26-24 win in set two before dropping the third 25-23.

Truman led 20-18 in the fourth set, but Missouri Western (8-7, 2-4 MIAA) used a six-point run to nab set point at 24-20. But after a Griffon service error, the Bulldogs rallied behind the strong serving of freshman Ali Patterson (Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit) to rattle off a six-point rally of their own to take the fourth set 26-24.

Brak was joined in double-figures offensively by freshman Abby Heise (Jacksonville, Ill., Springfield Lutheran) (11 kills, two aces, .333 atk%) and Patterson (10 kills, one ace), with senior Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) adding nine kills and a match-high eight blocks. Sophomore Meghan Zimmerman (Papillion, Neb., Gross Catholic) tied her career-best and set a new four-set high with 50 assists, adding 12 digs for her 10th double-double of 2012, while sophomore Abby Moser (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette) led all players with 19 digs.

The Bulldog .250 hitting percentage was countered by just a .141 mark by the Griffons, with the purple and white out-blocking MWSU 10.5-5. Truman sided-out at a 61% clip for the match, with no set ranking lower than 56%.

Three players finished in double-figures offensively for Missouri Western, led by 12 kills from Sarah Faubel. Stephanie Hattey posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 21 assists and 14 digs.

Truman returns to action on Saturday night, hosting Northwest Missouri at 6:00 pm in Pershing Arena. The Bearcats (9-5, 5-0 MIAA) will enter the match still undefeated in league play following after a five-set home win against Southwest Baptist on Friday night.
