Twellman's Tally Sends 'Dogs Past Jennies

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Kelsey Twellman's goal in the seventh minute proved to be the game-winner on Sunday, as the Truman women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 home win against Central Missouri.

Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) took possession of the ball on the Bulldogs' side of midfield and streaked down the middle of the UCM defense. No one stopped Twellman, as the senior went untouched into the 18-yard box and blasted a shot past the UCM keeper's right side to put Truman ahead 1-0. It marked the fourth goal of the season for Twellman.

The squads played relatively evenly the rest of the way, as Truman (8-2) out-shot Central 12-11, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh) posted her seventh shutout of the season, with the Bulldogs handing UCM (7-1-2) its first loss of the season.

The match did not count towards the MIAA standings, as it counted only as a regional victory for the 'Dogs. Truman's return match at Central in late-October will signify the league-counting match.

Truman returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when it takes on future-GLVC foe Quincy (Ill.) at 2:00 pm in Kirksville. The Lady Hawks, who entered the week ranked No. 7 in the country with an 8-0 record, will carry a two-match losing streak into Wednesday's match after losses at Rockhurst and William Jewell this weekend.
