Tennis Successful In First Dual Of Season

FULTON, Mo. – The Truman Tennis team began dual action on Tuesday with a dominating performance over Westminster (Mo.) College. The women took the Blue Jays 9-0 while the men claimed a 7-2 victory. The teams return to action on Thursday against Missouri Baptist in St. Louis.
 
The women swept through the doubles matches with Hannah Runez and Holly Cantalupo taking number one 8-6. Savannah Everett and Lauren Jin took number two with an 8-1 tally while Megan Mange and Elise Mousseau also won number three at 8-1.
 
All six singles matches were convincing wins by the Bulldogs in straight sets. Of the 12 sets played, the Blue Jays managed just six game wins.
 
The men led 2-1 following doubles with Adam King and Ryan Bunselmeyer taking number two by a score of 8-2 and Mike Merchant and Travis Hopkins claiming number three by the same score.
 
Five of the six singles were straight set winners for the Bulldogs. Joe Murphy-Baum tried to rally from a set down in number two singles. Murphy-Baum dropped the opener 6-4 but came back to win set two 6-1. He lost 11-9 in the tie break.
 
Both Truman teams are 1-0 in duals and will travel to St. Louis to face Missouri Baptist on Thursday before wrapping up the fall season on Saturday in Kirksville against Missouri Valley.
