ST. JOSEPH, Mo.  - - The 18th-ranked Truman volleyball team earned a non-conference road victory on Wednesday night, defeating former MIAA-rival Missouri Western in four sets en route to a third straight victory.

The Bulldogs (9-5) came out stagnant in the first set against an upstart Griffon (5-9) squad, hitting just .086 and allowing a .242 counter-mark to fall 25-20 to the hosts.

However, the purple and white turned the tables in the second and third sets, cruising to 25-18 decisions by forcing the Griffons into 15 hitting errors.

The fourth set was the most contested of the night, featuring 12 ties and eight lead changes. After Truman held match point at 24-23, the Griffons scored two straight and three of four to earn set points of their own at 25-24 and 26-25.

However, Truman got a kill by sophomore Kassi Schroeder in front of a service ace by fellow sophomore Abby Heise to gain control. Schroder and a third sophomore – Emilee Walters – combined to finish the night, blocking a Griffon attack for the 28-26 victory.

Heise and junior Allie Brak led the Bulldogs with 14 kills apiece, with Heise hitting .379 and adding five blocks and a pair of aces for a match-high 18.5 points. Brak, meanwhile, chipped in two aces of her own, with freshman Jessye Maurer putting down nine kills.

Truman recorded 10 blocks on the night, led by sophomore Ali Patterson's six, while the team's two seniors – Heather Hargadine and Lauren Radix – paced the squad with 10 digs each. Junior Meghan Zimmerman led all players with 46 assists.

The Bulldogs return to Pershing Arena for two GLVC matches this weekend, beginning on Friday night at 7:30 pm against Missouri-St. Louis. The match marks this season's "Dig Pink" night, with fans wearing pink receiving free admission to the contest.
