Seniors Come Through for 'Dogs in 4-1 Win

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Three seniors took the stage offensively for the 20th-ranked Truman women's soccer team, as Trisha Shoemaker scored twice, Kristina Weishar added three points, and Suzanne Pelley chipped in an assist to help lead the Bulldogs to a 4-1 home win against McKendree on Senior Day Sunday.
 
The Bulldogs (10-2-3, 9-1-2 GLVC) got things rolling in the 17th minute, when Shoemaker corralled a pass from Weishar and beat McKendree (5-5-5, 3-4-5 GLVC) keeper Maggie Dudas to her left for a 1-0 lead. Weishar would then finish a highlight-reel goal less than nine minutes later, dribbling through three Bearcat defenders and finishing for a 2-0 lead.
 
Just before the half, however, the Bearcats would get a delayed call inside the 18 in their favor, setting up Amy Cassiday for a PK goal that cut the Truman advantage to 2-1.
 
The Bulldogs were gift-wrapped a goal in the 48th minute, when a Shoemaker cross was sent into the net by a MCK defender for an own goal and a 3-1 lead. Then, in the 66th, Shoemaker snuck a pass from Pelley and scored her 23rd career goal with a 4-1 margin.
 
Truman out-shot the Bearcats 15-10 on the day with both teams putting seven shots on goal. Emily Bozdeck made six saves in net while allowing just the penalty kick goal. Shoemaker and Melanie Hunt each took three shots to lead the purple and white.
 
The Bulldogs remain one game back of Quincy in the race for the GLVC title and are also a game ahead of UW-Parkside for third place. Truman is 2.5 games up on both Bellarmine and Rockhurst for the No. 4 spot in the league standings. The Bulldogs next travel to Southern Indiana on Friday, Oct. 25, for a 5:00 pm kickoff in Evansville, Indiana.
