SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - - A pair of first-timers finding the net added with a two-goal game from an established veteran equaled a straightforward 4-0 road win for the No. 23 Truman women's soccer team at Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (11-3-3, 10-2-2 GLVC) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in next week's GLVC tournament with one regular season game to play after dominating from start to finish on Sunday at UIS (3-14, 1-13 GLVC). Truman out-shot the Prairie Stars 22-6, including 16-1 on goal, and used a three-goals in seven minutes stretch to close the road portion of the 2013 slate on a positive note.

Sophomore Jade Shinn - making a start along the Bulldog back line - smashed home her first career goal in the 22nd minute to put Truman ahead 1-0. Shinn was on the receiving end of a Megan Frkovic corner kick.

Then, in the 67th minute, senior Trisha Shoemaker corraled a Megan Whitehead pass and scored on the right side of the net to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

A shade more than four minutes later, Shoemaker scored her 25th career goal and recorded her third career multi-goal game when she fired a laser from 20 yards out past the outstretched hands of the UIS keeper.

Finally, just 2:30 after the 'Dogs had gone up 3-0, sophomore Janae Fritze added an exclamation point on the Bulldog offensive outburst by taking a Shoemaker pass and knocking home her first career goal. Fritze had checked into the match for the first time just 45 seconds prior to finding pay-dirt and helped lead to a five-point day for Shoemaker.

Emily Bozdeck recorded her 25th career shutout (10th this season) by making just one save in the match. She now has a goals-against average of 0.39 in more than 1,600 minutes of action this season.

Truman - despite being set for next Sunday's (Nov. 2) GLVC quarterfinal as the No. 2 seed - has a key regional contest in line on Wednesday (Oct. 30) afternoon, as the Bulldogs entertain No. 9 and GLVC-leading Quincy (Ill.) at noon in Kirksville. The Lady Hawks were ranked No. 2 in last week's NCAA regional rankings - one spot ahead of Truman, who was ranked third. The top-6 in the region at the end of the season qualify for the NCAA Div. II tournament.
