KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The No. 18 Truman volleyball team came out on the winning side of a battle for first place in the GLVC West Division, sweeping Missouri-St. Louis 3-0 on Friday night in Pershing Arena.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 4-1 GLVC) ran their winning streak to four matches by sweeping the Tritons (8-6, 4-2 GLVC) and moved into a tie for first place in the GLVC West with Rockhurst at 4-1 in league play. Truman hit just .143 as a team on the night, but recorded nine blocks and held UMSL to an .024 mark to secure the win.

The first set was the tightest of the night, with 10 ties and four lead changes; however, after trailing 23-22 following an UMSL kill, Abby Heise evened the score before UMSL committed two attack errors to hand Truman a 25-23 win.

The second set appeared to be all UMSL, as the Tritons opened a 17-7 lead behind the Bulldogs' worst offense set of the season. Truman began to chip away, however, scoring seven straight behind Meghan Zimmerman's serving to pull within three at 17-14. UMSL pushed the lead back to six two different times – the latest at 21-15 – but Truman scored seven of the next eight to knot the score at 22. From there, the teams sided-out to a 24-23 UMSL edge, but once again, the Bulldogs prevailed late – scoring the final three points with two kills and a Triton error to take the set, 26-24.

The final set was all Truman, as the Bulldogs built a 9-5 lead and never led by less than three the rest of the way, capping the match with a 25-20 victory.

Ali Patterson took home top offensive honors with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage, while Emilee Walters (seven kills, six blocks) and Heise (seven kills, two aces and two blocks) also reached double-figures in points. Abby Moser led three 'Dogs in double-figure digs with 13, while Zimmerman recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs.

The Bulldogs return to the court on Saturday afternoon, hosting Maryville University at 3:00 pm. The Saints visit Pershing Arena having dropped a three-set match at Quincy on Friday night, moving their record to 6-10 overall, 1-5 in the GLVC.
