Tennis Cruises To Road Victories

ST. LOUIS – The Truman Tennis teams continued their fall road trip with a pair of convincing wins against Missouri Baptist University. The men shutout the Spartans 9-0 while the women claimed an 8-1 victory.
 
Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith set the tone with an 8-4 victory in number one doubles while Joe Murphy-Baum and Kirk Schlueter downed Cole Stevenson and Drew Morris 8-0. Adam King and Ryan Bunselmeyer finished off the doubles with an 8-3 victory at number three.
 
Ohlhausen held off Drew Morris in number one singles by winning the first set 7-5 and then taking number two 6-3. The other five singles matches were handled with ease by the men as they grabbed the remaining team points in straight sets.
 
The women improved to 2-0 on the season with their 8-1 win over Missouri Baptist.
 
Kim Birenbaum and Jessica Gennuso won 8-5 at number one. The teams of Marisa Thome/Lauren Jin and Savannah Everett/Kelsey Porter took 8-1 decisions to send the Bulldogs into singles leading 3-0.
 
Birenbaum had the only blemish on the day as Nika Juricic stayed off defeat with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 win at number one singles.
 
Kati Austin and Marisa Thome won their matches without allowing a game victory at number two and six singles respectively.
 
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Missouri Valley on Saturday morning to wrap up the fall season.
 
First serve is slated for 9:00 a.m. at the Truman Tennis Courts.
