Volleyball Picks Up Road Win in Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - - Junior Allie Brak tied her season-high with 20 kills, and the 17th-ranked Truman offense hit .277 as a team to earn a 3-1 win at Quincy (Ill.) on Tuesday night.
 
Truman (12-5, 6-1 GLVC) won its sixth straight match behind the team's 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17 victory against the Hawks (6-10, 2-5 GLVC), setting up a battle for first-place in the GLVC West Division on Friday night in Kansas City. Truman will take on divisional co-leader Rockhurst (12-3, 6-1 GLVC) at 7:00 pm on the RU campus in the only scheduled match between the teams this season.
 
On Tuesday, however, the Bulldogs opened up a 2-0 lead before stumbling in the third set as Quincy forced a fourth frame. After QU and Truman were tied at 14-all in the fourth, the Bulldogs hit the gas and scored three straight before siding-out to a 20-17 lead. The Bulldogs then scored the final five points of the match to earn the 25-17 fourth set win and the 40th all-time victory against the Hawks for the Truman program.
 
For Brak, the 20-kill outburst matched her season-high and marked the fourth time
in her career she finished a match with at least 20 kills. She hit .255 on the night and added 15 digs for her 36th career double-double, while also chipping in an ace and a block. Sophomore Abby Heise hit .296 with 10 kills, while redshirt freshman Jessye Maurer set a new career-high with 10 kills and a .292 hitting line. Heise also shared top blocking honors with fellow sophomore Ali Patterson, as both recorded six block assists as part of nine total blocks on the night for the purple and white.
 
Junior setter Meghan Zimmerman finished with 42 assists and eight digs, while junior libero Abby Moser notched a match-high 22 digs.
 
Carly Schmitt finished with 12 kills to lead the Hawks, while Sommer Holder added 16 digs.
