ALLENDALE, Mich. - - Two goals – one in each half – by Rockhurst forward Katie Kujawa served as the decisive tallies in a tight battle between conference rivals, as the fourth-seeded Truman women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the fifth-seeded Hawks in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA tournament.

The Bulldogs wrap up their 2013 season with a 12-5-4 record, while Rockhurst (13-5-3) advances to face Midwest region top-seed Grand Valley (Mich.) State on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

The first half was controlled primarily by the Bulldogs, as Truman took nine shots to RU's five. Senior Trisha Shoemaker had a good look in just the seventh minute, but her point blank shot was knocked wide by Hawk keeper Ali Wallner. Rockhurst slowly built pressure late to earn three straight corner kicks beginning in the 42nd minute. It was on the third try that a bounding ball was knocked home by Kujawa to put RU on top 1-0 just before the half.

In the second, the Bulldogs had a golden chance touched over the bar in the 78th minute when Alexis Heffernan's rip was saved by Wallner. Then, just two and a half minutes later, Kujawa snuck her own attempt just under the bar from nearly 35 yards out to give the Hawks an insurance goal and the game's final tally at 2-0.

The Bulldogs out-shot RU 16-11 on the night, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Shoemaker and Heffernan each took four shots, while senior Annie Skornia and junior Melanie Hunt each added a pair. Senior keeper Emily Bozdeck made four saves between the pipes.

Truman graduates seven seniors – Kristina Weishar, Suzanne Pelley, Skornia, Shoemaker, Kelsey Ridgway, Sally Smith and Bozdeck – and will return five starters for the 2014 season.
