Men's Tennis Begins Spring Campaign

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Truman Men's Tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches over the weekend in Iowa. The Bulldogs fell to Grinnell (Iowa) College 8-1 then on Sunday lost to Graceland (Iowa) College 9-0 in their first action since October.
 
Against Grinnell, the Bulldogs' Joe Murphy-Baum returned to action and picked up the lone singles win at number four against Tracy Johnson winning 7-5, 6-3. Teamed with partner Adam King, Murphy-Baum lost by a break at number two doubles 8-6 over Johnson and Colin Johnson.
 
Three of the singles matches against Grinnell had a first set go into an extra game and another was decided by a break at 6-4.
 
In Sunday's match with Graceland, Mike Merchant and Kirk Schlueter dropped a 9-8 decision to David Uquillas and Felipe Suarez Parra at the number three doubles match but all six singles matches went to Graceland in straight sets.
 
Truman's next scheduled dual is March 9th against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University in Bolivar to open up the MIAA campaign.
