Men's Tennis Takes Two Road Wins

EMPORIA, Kan. – The Truman Men's Tennis team completed a 2-0 weekend road trip with a 5-4 win on Friday at Missouri Valley and a 7-2 conference win at Emporia (Kan.) State. The women lost both matches by 9-0 and 8-1 scores. The teams return to Kirksville to face Missouri Western (women only) on Wednesday and Nebraska-Kearney on Friday.
 
The men swept through the doubles against Emporia State with Kirk Schlueter and Griffin Smith winning 9-8 at number one, Adam King and Joe Murphy-Baum winning 8-5 at number two and Patrick Spain and Matt Peterson taking an 8-6 win at number three.
 
King needed three sets to take the number two singles point as he won 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 but Murphy-Baum, Mike Merchant and Peterson were each straight set victors.
 
Jessica Gennuso grabbed the lone team point for the women against Emporia State. Gennuso was a straight set winner at number three taking the match 7-5, 6-3 over Tiffany Khounsombath.
 
The men picked up their first league win and are not 6-4 on the season while the Bulldog women fall to 0-3 in the conference and 3-4 overall.
 
No details have been made available on the Missouri Valley dual.
