Southwest Baptist Wins Conference Opening Duals With Truman Tennis

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Truman Tennis Teams were swept in the conference opener on Saturday by Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University. The men were defeated 9-0 while the women dropped an 8-1 decision to the nationally ranked Bearcats.
 
The SBU women are ranked 25th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Bearcats swept through the doubles dropping just two games in the process and took five of the six singles matches. The lone Truman win came via forfeit by Tess Severin over Andjela Panovski in number six.
 
Lauren Higgins lost by a break (6-4) in the number four singles match before falling in the second set 6-2.
 
Matt Peterson and Mike Merchant put up a fight for the Bulldog men in the number three doubles match before losing 8-4.
 
In singles, Joe Stuhlmann pushed Guido Margiotta to a 7-5 first set before the Bearcat prevailed 6-1 to take the second.
 
The Bulldog teams will next be in action on March 19 when they host Lindenwood (Mo.) University at 4:00 p.m. at the Truman Tennis Courts.
