Truman Tennis Defeated In Sunflower State

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Truman Women's Tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Fort Hays (Kan.) State and the Washburn (Kan.) University swept both Bulldog teams on Friday afternoon on the road. The Ichabod men took the dual 7-2 while the Lady Blues beat the Bulldogs 8-1.
 
The Tigers match started the day and was a make-up of a previously scheduled match in Kirksville. Lauren Higgins won set two and a tie breaker to win the number five singles and Kelsey Porter won number six in straight sets to pick up the lone points for the Bulldogs.
 
Joe Murphy-Baum and Adam King edged out the Washburn number two doubles team in a marathon match by a score of 9-8 (7-2) to make it 2-1 Ichabods heading into singles play.
 
Washburn would take five of the six singles match to drop the Bulldogs to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference while Griffin Smith rallied for a big win at number two singles.
 
Smith lost the first set 6-3 but took number two 7-6 (7-5) and the third set tie break by a 10-3 tally to pick up the second team point for Truman.
 
The Lady Blues swept through the doubles matches against the Truman ladies. Tess Severn picked up the lone team point for Truman with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number four singles while Lauren Higgins won her first set 6-0 but lost 6-1 and 10-6 at number five.
 
The women will make up their dual with Lincoln (Mo.) on Monday afternoon in Kirksville at 4:00 p.m. and both teams will conclude their regular season on Wednesday with a home dual against Northwest Missouri at 2:00 p.m. at the Truman Tennis Courts.
