DENVER  - - The 15th-ranked Truman volleyball team went 1-1 in pool play on day one of the 2013 Colorado Premier Challenge, coming-from-behind to defeat Florida Southern 3-2 before falling 3-0 to No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs advance to the Silver bracket on Saturday, where they will face former MIAA-rival Nebraska-Kearney at 1:00 pm (CT) on the campus of Metro State University. UNK, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, and Bulldogs last met on Oct. 12, 2012, when Truman stunned the then-No. 1 Lopers with a 3-1 win in Kearney, Nebraska.

On Friday, however, the Bulldogs dropped a pair of close sets against FSC, losing the first 25-23 before coming up short in an epic 34-32 nailbiter. Truman turned it around from there, though, as the purple and white rebounded with a 25-19 third-set win before forcing a fifth set with a 25-22 decision in the fourth.

The Bulldogs built a 5-3 lead in the final frame, before Florida Southern scored five straight to take an 8-5 lead. Truman would tie the match at 10-all, but FSC scored four of the next six to force match point at 14-12. However, Emilee Walters and Kassi Schroeder picked up a double-block, then Walters came through with a kill to even the score. Schroeder notched her 10th kill of the match to put Truman ahead 15-14, before FSC committed a hitting error on match point to give Truman the come-from-behind victory.

Five Bulldogs finished in double-figures, led by a sophomore trio – Walters, Abby Heise and Ali Patterson – who each put down 13 kills. Allie Brak added 11 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, while Heise paired her 13 kills with a career-high 11 digs of her own. Meghan Zimmerman also hit the double-double category with 53 assists and 10 digs, while Abby Moser (16) and Heather Hargadine (15) cleaned up the back row and led Truman in digs. Patterson finished with five blocks to lead the team with 15.5 points.

Head coach Ben Briney became just the fourth coach in Truman history to reach 100 wins with the victory against FSC.

The Bulldogs then had just 65 minutes to turnaround and hit the floor again – this time against the nation's six-time defending champions and current No. 4 squad Concordia-St. Paul. Truman struggled against CU, hitting -.071 in the opening frame before keeping closer in sets two and three en route to a three-set sweep by Concordia. Brak led the way with nine kills, while Walters and Heise each added five.
