DENVER  - - Truman volleyball split a pair of matches for the second straight day at the 2013 Colorado Premier Challenge, opening the day with a three-set loss to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney before bouncing back with a five-set thrilling win against No. 21 Regis (Colo.) in the finale.

The 15th-ranked Bulldogs moved to 5-3 on the season and secured third place in the "silver bracket" of the Premier with Saturday's results. Truman played three close sets with former MIAA-foe UNK, falling by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19, but then notched its first win of the year against a ranked opponent by dropping co-host Regis 25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 27-29, and 15-7.

Junior Allie Brak was nearly unstoppable against the third-ranked Lopers, averaging nearly six kills per set (17 total) and hitting. 400 while adding six digs. Sophomore Abby Heise added eight kills and five blocks, while fellow sophomore Emilee Walters hit .357 behind six kills and six blocks.

The Bulldogs battled tourney co-host Regis and shot out to a fast 2-0 lead, capitalizing on multiple Ranger miscues in the opening two sets. However, RU earned a six-point win in the third set before outlasting Truman in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set. After the teams were tied at 5-5, the Bulldogs hit the accelerator and rattled off a match-ending 10-2 run to pick up a 15-7 decision in the fifth.

Brak once again led all Bulldogs offensively, putting away 19 kills on a .333 hitting line to go with 14 digs and a pair of aces. Heise (13 kills, four blocks, two aces) and Walters (13 kills, five blocks) also reached double-digit points, while junior Meghan Zimmerman came just short of a triple-double with six kills, 50 assists and 14 digs. Junior Abby Moser patrolled the back line to a tune of 21 digs, while senior Heather Hargadine led all players by dealing triple aces.

Truman returns from Colorado to jump into Great Lakes Valley Conference play next weekend. The Bulldogs begin conference action on the road with matches at Lewis (Ill.) and Wisconsin-Parkside next Saturday and Sunday.
