KIRKSVILLE - - The Truman women's soccer team battled visiting Lewis (Ill.) University to a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

In a match-up of two of the GLVC's top squads, the Bulldogs (3-1-2, 2-0-1 GLVC) and Flyers (4-0-1, 2-0-1 GLVC) both got on the board in the opening half before taking turns applying pressure throughout the second 45 minutes and overtime periods. Lewis scored the game's first goal, as Jessica Chavez banged one home off the bottom of the crossbar just over the line for a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

Then, just 20 minutes later, Bulldog senior Hayley Bollwerk took a corner kick just 51 seconds after coming into the match as a substitute. Her intended cross ended up curling directly into the upper right corner of the net untouched for her first goal of 2013 and a 1-1 score.

Both squads had great chances in the second half, as Lewis striker Maggie Moran got by the defense before getting stonewalled by Bulldog keeper Emily Bozdeck in the 56th minute. Ten minutes later, Truman freshman Megan Whitehead nearly gave the home squad the lead, but her strike from 35 yards out was nudged over the bar by Flyers keeper Jennifer Meyer.

Despite Lewis out-shooting Truman 18-15 overall, the Bulldogs had a 9-7 edge in shots on goal and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Bozdeck made six saves in net for Truman.

Truman closes the weekend homestand on Sunday at noon by welcoming 18th-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside to the Bulldog Soccer Park. The Rangers (3-1-1, 1-1-1 GLVC) are coming off their first loss of 2013, dropping a 3-2 decision at Quincy on Friday night.
